PostSubject: How do gates work?   Sat May 16, 2015 12:11 am

Just a little bit confused on gates and spawn locations.

I'm making a maze map and obviously there is a set point I want the gates/portals to send the player to. I have changed the coords in the world file but the portal does not teleport to the global coords. I'd like to try gates but I don't understand how they work. There's only one set of coords, so how does the game place the location of the gate as well as the spawn point? It can't read the global coords since that's the same as a portal. I'm just a tad bit confused about it, and that's it honestly. Thanks c:

[Gate]
gateMat
2477 28 2777
Map Destination
1300 1300

[Gate] is obviously your command telling the game this is a Gate.

gateMat is the textureMat that the gate uses. Unlike portals this must be set manually and can be set to anything. (e.g. a black texture)

2477 28 2777 is where in your current map the gate exists.

Map Destination is the name of the map you wish to jump to when you go through the gate.

1300 1300 is the location at which you will spawn on the new/same map when you go through the gate.
Gate destination coordinates do not need to have a Y coord because they will automatically spawn you on flat ground at the X and Z coords.

E.g.

[Gate]
gateMat
3156 12 1612
Maze
123 1500

Will spawn a gate at 3156 12 1612 in your current map and will teleport you to 123 1500 in your Maze map.

Notes: You can not change a gate's size and a reminder they are HUGE.
This is why most of them are found for cave entrances and are placed inside the ground.

Just a quick note, the destination point can use a Y coordinate to place the player above the ground as in this example.

[Gate]
secretgate
4000 539 4101
Castle
4060 100072 3833

This places the player on a VERY high platform.

I've never needed to spawn anywhere but on the ground so that really never became useful to me- however yes, oIT's Castle gate is a great example.
